The designated operator of Greece, Hellenic Post (ELTA), asks us to inform other Union member countries and their designated operators that, owing to the lack of transport capacity following numerous international flight cancellations resulting from measures to limit the transmission of COVID-19, it is currently unable to transport mail (letter-post and parcel-post items, as well as transit mail) to many countries.
As from 20 March 2020, Hellenic Post will only be able to send – with delays expected due to limited capacity – letter-post and parcel-post items destined to:
• Europe (EU and non-EU countries), except Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Cyprus, Serbia, and Slovenia.
• Argentina, Australia, Bahrain, Bangladesh, Brazil, Canada, Georgia, Hong Kong (China), India, Indonesia, Iran (Islamic Rep.), Japan, Mexico, Morocco, New Zealand, Pakistan, Qatar, Singapore, South Africa, Korea (Rep.), Thailand, Turkey, United Arab Emirates, United States of America, and Venezuela.
The above list is subject to change on a daily basis.
Hellenic Post is therefore declaring a situation of force majeure and suspending, with immediate effect, the acceptance of letter-post and parcel-post items destined to all other Union member countries until sufficient transport capacity becomes available. Closed or open transit mail will not be accepted to any destination country unless bilaterally agreed upon.
Hellenic Post thanks other Union member countries and their designated operators for their understanding and cooperation. It will update them via EmIS once the situation has returned to normal.
