South African Post Office Ltd. asks us to inform other Union member countries and their designated operators that, owing to the outbreak and rapid spread of COVID-19 and the increasing number of infections in South Africa, the government has extended the lockdown by another two weeks from 17 April to 30 April 2020.
Consequently, South African Post Office Ltd is declaring a situation of force majeure in relation to the standards affected as a result, including the quality link to remuneration for letter post and parcel post (suspension of pay-for-performance penalties has been unanimously agreed by the EMS Cooperative).
As things stand, normal services are expected to resume on 4 May 2020. South African Post Office will, however, advise its partners of its status at that time.
All other conditions set out in EmIS 205/2020 of 25 March 2020 remain unchanged.
South African Post Office thanks all Union member countries and their designated operators for their understanding. It will update them of any relevant changes via EmIS.
