The designated operator of
Switzerland, Swiss Post, would like to inform other Union member countries and
their designated operators that, as part of measures to minimize the spread of
the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) and in accordance with the guidelines issued
by the Swiss Government, which also include the suspension of the national
delivery standards, Swiss Post is no longer able to guarantee inbound and
outbound mail standards, and is therefore invoking a situation of force majeure
with regard to quality of service and remuneration for all categories of mail
item (letter-post, parcel-post, EPG, PRIME, Interconnect and EMS items) until
further notice. As part of measures, Swiss Post has also had to change its delivery process for
all items requiring signature on delivery.
With effect from 16 March 2020, all items requiring signature on delivery will not be signed for by the recipient, for health and safety reasons. For such items, in place of the recipient’s signature, the delivery agent will enter a code in the signature field of the handheld device. This temporary measure will apply from 16 March 2020 until further notice.
Swiss Post thanks all Union member countries and their designated operators for their understanding. It will update them of any relevant changes via EmIS.
